With the government instructing people of the UK to stay at home, the entertainment industry (gaming) is receiving a lot of attention. A lot of people are turning to video-games to keep them entertained during the lockdown.
Steam has recently reached 20.3 million players, 11% more than they usually get. Twitch has also doubled in viewers.

I had the privilege to have an interview with KritikulHit, a twitch partnered streamer. When asked if he had received an increase in viewers on his channel he said:
“Since schools have closed and a lot more people are working from home, I’ve seen a noticeable increase in my average viewing of the channel, I would say around 20-25% more people have watched on average over the last few days, on one or two days maybe even a 50% increase”.
He recently announced that due to the COVID-19 outbreak he is streaming an hour more than usual.
I asked him how he is finding it thus far and he said: “I wanted to stream more during the outbreak to give people an escape from what could quickly become a very boring and agitating routine with being told to stay at home.
“I think people have been very grateful for me streaming that extra hour, which doesn’t impact much on my own life as I’ve worked from home for the past 18 months!”
When I finally inquired of the impact he thinks the Coronavirus have on the gaming industry, he said:
“I think the outbreak’s impact on the gaming industry has actually been a positive one, I think both financially and socially.

“With people being almost forced to stay at home, gaming can provide that level of socialism that people cannot otherwise get at this troubling time, which can only be a good thing for the industry.”
