Martin Short Confirms Daughter Katherine Hartley Short Dead At 42

Veteran comedian Martin Short has confirmed the death of his daughter, Katherine Hartley Short, who has died at the age of 42.

In a statement released Tuesday evening, the two-time Emmy winner shared the family’s grief. “It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short.

“The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”

Report Details Surrounding Katherine Hartley Short’s Death

Entertainment outlet TMZ previously reported that Katherine was found dead at her home in the Hollywood Hills on Monday evening.

According to People, the Los Angeles Police Department said a call had been placed to the Los Angeles Fire Department regarding a possible suicide.

Katherine Hartley Short’s Career And Family Background

People reported that Katherine held degrees in psychology and gender sexuality studies and worked as a clinical social worker in Los Angeles. She also worked part-time at a mental health and psychiatric care facility, helping to provide “community outreach, family support groups, peer support and psychotherapy.”

Katherine was the eldest of three children adopted by Martin and his late wife, Nancy Dolman, during their 30-year marriage. The couple also raised sons Oliver and Henry.

“It’s been a tough two years for my children,” he said at the time. “This is the thing of life that we live in denial about, that it will ever happen to us or our loved ones, and when it does you gain a little and you suffer a little. There’s no big surprise.”

Martin Short is currently on a comedy tour with longtime collaborator Steve Martin.
