Prince Harry, along with several high-profile individuals including Sir Elton John, David Furnish, Baroness Doreen Lawrence, Sadie Frost, Elizabeth Hurley, and Sir Simon Hughes, has been given the green light to proceed with his High Court privacy case against the publisher of the Daily Mail, Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL).
The claimants have accused ANL of allegedly carrying out or commissioning unlawful activities, such as hiring private investigators to place listening devices inside cars, “blagging” private records, and accessing and recording private phone conversations.

In a ruling on Friday, Mr Justice Nicklin stated that ANL had “not been able to deliver a ‘knockout blow’ to the claims of any of these claimants.”
This ruling provides a significant boost to Prince Harry and the other claimants, as it confirms that they have a “real prospect” of demonstrating that ANL concealed “relevant facts” that would have allowed them to bring a claim against the publisher earlier.
According to the judgment, the claimants argue that ANL not only concealed the publication of unlawful articles but also employed further devices in the published articles to mislead and divert attention from the true source of private information.
This raises questions about the extent to which the claimants’ confidences were betrayed by those close to them and whether treacherous friends played a role in the unlawful information gathering.
While ANL argues that the claims should be dismissed due to a legal period of limitation, Mr Justice Nicklin concluded that the “fair resolution” of this issue should await trial.
This decision underscores the importance of allowing the claims to be fully examined and evaluated in a court of law.
Prince Harry’s involvement in this case is particularly significant, as it highlights his ongoing commitment to protecting his privacy and that of his family. Despite flying over from California to attend the hearings, he remains steadfast in his pursuit of justice and accountability.
