Tory MP Crispin Blunt has been arrested on serious allegations of rape and possession of controlled substances.
The 63-year-old member of parliament for Reigate was arrested and questioned by Surrey police on Wednesday morning. As a result, he has had the whip suspended by the Conservative Party and has been asked to stay away from the parliamentary estate.

After reports of the arrest of an unnamed Conservative MP emerged on Thursday evening, Mr Blunt issued a statement vowing to clear his name. He claimed that he had initially been interviewed by police after he reported an alleged extortion. However, he confirmed that he was the MP who had been arrested in connection with the allegation of rape.
Mr Blunt expressed his willingness to cooperate fully with the investigation and stated that he believes it will end without charge. He emphasized that he will not comment further on the matter until the police have completed their inquiries.
Mr Blunt has been the MP for Reigate, Surrey since 1997. He has had a diverse career, having served in the army and worked as a Special Adviser to Malcolm Rifkind. In 2010, he publicly announced that he is gay and separated from his wife.
He has held various positions within the Conservative Party, including Opposition Spokesperson for Northern Ireland and Shadow Minister for National Security.
His arrest adds to the growing list of allegations involving sitting Conservative MPs, which has dealt a significant blow to Rishi Sunak’s promise to crack down on sleaze within the party. Just this week, former Tory MP Peter Bone was suspended for six weeks for bullying and sexual misconduct, and Tory whip Chris Pincher resigned from his government role following allegations of groping.
