Ange Postecoglou, after leading Celtic to a domestic treble this season and securing back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles, has been appointed as Tottenham’s new head coach.

The Australian manager is set to make history as the first Australian to manage a Premier League team. He will officially join Spurs on July 1, following his successful two-year tenure at Celtic.

Tottenham confirmed that the coaching staff accompanying Postecoglou will be announced at a later date.

Daniel Levy, the chairman of Spurs, expressed his enthusiasm for the incoming head coach, praising his positive mentality and fast, attacking style of play.

Levy emphasized Postecoglou’s track record of player development and his understanding of the club’s values, including the importance of the academy.

The chairman expressed excitement about Postecoglou’s arrival as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

Negotiations between Tottenham and Postecoglou took place on Monday after reaching an agreement with Celtic to secure his services.

Among the candidates considered by Spurs, Postecoglou emerged as the preferred choice, surpassing Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi and Fulham head coach Marco Silva.

Postecoglou takes over as permanent head coach from Antonio Conte, who was dismissed in March. Following Conte’s departure, Cristian Stellini and later Ryan Mason served as interim head coaches for the remainder of the season.

Although Celtic made efforts to convince Postecoglou to stay in Glasgow, the allure of Tottenham’s proposal persuaded the former Australia manager to embark on a new opportunity.

Postecoglou expressed his respect and understanding for Celtic’s position but felt compelled to explore the fresh challenge presented by Spurs.

In response to Postecoglou’s departure, Celtic issued a statement indicating that the process to appoint their next manager is already underway.
