US President Donald Trump has said a peace agreement aimed at ending the conflict involving Iran could be signed as early as today, signalling a potential breakthrough that may reopen one of the world’s most crucial energy routes.
According to Trump, the proposed agreement would result in the Strait of Hormuz being reopened, allowing unrestricted maritime traffic through the strategically important waterway.
The announcement comes despite cautious messaging from Iranian officials, who indicated that a formal agreement had not yet reached the signing stage.
Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Saturday: “We will have to wait and see about the exact date of the signing of the memorandum of understanding, although it will not be tomorrow.”
However, Trump later struck a more optimistic tone in a post on Truth Social, writing: “The Deal is scheduled to get signed tomorrow, and immediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is OPEN TO ALL.”
Trump Claims Iran Agreement Will Reopen Strait Of Hormuz
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping lane for global energy supplies, handled approximately one-fifth of the world’s oil and natural gas exports before hostilities erupted following American and Israeli air strikes on 28 February.
Iran has effectively closed the waterway since the outbreak of the conflict, contributing to rising oil prices and fuelling concerns over wider economic repercussions across international markets.
Trump also stated that financial incentives would not form part of the arrangement.

He said: “No money will exchange hands” as part of the peace deal and asserted that the United States would eliminate what remains of Iran’s nuclear capability “when all is calm”.
He added: “We look forward to working with Iran, and the entire Middle East, long into the future.
“Hopefully, this process will all work out quickly, easily, and smoothly. If it doesn’t, we have the ultimate alternative, hopefully never to be used again!”
