A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a newborn baby died following a fall from a height in central London.
Police were called to an address on Horseferry Road in Westminster at around 7.30am on Saturday. Emergency services attended the scene after reports of a baby sustaining serious injuries.
The 18-day-old girl was taken to hospital but was later pronounced dead, according to the Metropolitan Police.
Police Launch Investigation Into Baby Death In Westminster
A 43-year-old woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. She was taken into police custody, where she remains while enquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, who is leading the Metropolitan Police investigation, said officers believe the incident happened in a domestic setting.
She said in a statement: “Our thoughts today are with the baby’s family. The death of an infant is always an extremely tragic occurrence, and officers are making urgent enquiries around the circumstances.”

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as the investigation continues.
Horseferry Road, which stretches from Lambeth Bridge to Greycoat Place, is one of the main routes through Westminster.
