A Liberal Democrat MP has been suspended from the parliamentary party after being arrested, with party officials confirming that the whip has been withdrawn while a police investigation continues.

Cameron Thomas, who represents Tewkesbury, was arrested on Wednesday evening, according to reports. The Liberal Democrats have also suspended his party membership while the matter is being investigated.
In a statement, a party spokesperson said: “Cameron Thomas MP has had the party whip suspended pending the outcome of a police investigation. We are unable to comment further while the police investigation is ongoing.”

Thomas has served as the MP for Tewkesbury since being elected at the 2024 general election.
Before entering Parliament, he had a career in the armed forces. According to information provided by the Liberal Democrats, he previously served as both an RAF officer and a military police officer.
The suspension means Thomas will no longer sit as a Liberal Democrat MP in Parliament while the investigation remains active.

In addition to representing Tewkesbury, Thomas currently sits on the Culture, Media and Sport Committee in the House of Commons.
His party membership is also understood to have been suspended alongside the withdrawal of the parliamentary whip.
