The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan, cheered enthusiastically as Team UK took the stage at the Invictus Games opening ceremony in Vancouver.
The royal couple, who have been long-time supporters of the event, showed their admiration for the athletes, clapping and smiling as the team made their entrance.
Founded by Prince Harry in 2014, the Invictus Games celebrate the resilience and determination of wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans. This year’s edition marks a significant milestone as the games introduce winter sports for the first time.
Star-Studded Performances and Heartfelt Moments
The opening ceremony featured performances from global music icons, including Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Nelly Furtado, and Katy Perry, setting an uplifting tone for the event.

Boeing International, the presenting sponsor, was represented by its president, Brendan Nelson, who delivered a heartfelt tribute to Prince Harry.
“Prince Harry has given duty, courage, hope, and love a name. Invictus,” Nelson declared, as the crowd erupted in applause. Meghan, beaming with pride, was seen clapping and affectionately touching Harry’s face when Nelson expressed admiration for his contributions.

Earlier in the day, Meghan took to Instagram to share her excitement, posting a video of herself alongside Team USA and another where she warmly embraced a Team Canada athlete. Her presence at the event highlights her unwavering support for Harry and the Invictus mission.
The Legacy of Invictus and Its Personal Significance
Since its inception, the Invictus Games have provided a platform for over 500 competitors from 23 nations to showcase their strength and perseverance.

This year’s British team consists of 62 veterans and serving personnel who have overcome life-changing injuries or illnesses sustained during their military service.
The event holds deep personal significance for Harry and Meghan. It was at the 2017 Toronto Invictus Games that they made their first public appearance as a couple, and in 2018, they attended the event just days after announcing Meghan’s pregnancy.
Following the birth of their son, Archie, Harry travelled to the Netherlands to promote the 2020 games, where he received a touching gift—an Invictus-themed onesie.

Looking ahead, the games will return to the UK in 2027, with Birmingham set to host the competition.
The journey of Invictus, inspired by Harry’s visit to the Warrior Games in 2013, continues to grow, offering hope and empowerment to those who have sacrificed in service to their countries.
Meanwhile, Meghan is preparing for the release of her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, now set to premiere on March 4 after delays due to the LA wildfires.
As the Invictus Games unfold, the couple remains deeply committed to their shared mission—celebrating the resilience and spirit of those who have served.
