A high-stakes emergency summit of European leaders is set to take place early next week, with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer joining the discussions.
French President Emmanuel Macron will convene the meeting, which will focus on the ongoing war in Ukraine and the need for NATO unity in the face of Russian aggression.
Sir Keir has described this moment as a “once-in-a-generation” opportunity for the UK, US, and Europe to reinforce their alliance. He warned against divisions within NATO, emphasizing that the UK will play a key role in ensuring Europe and the US remain united.
US Officials Head to Saudi Arabia for Exclusive Peace Talks
While European leaders prepare for the crisis summit, two senior American officials—US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and special envoy Steve Witkoff—are travelling to Saudi Arabia for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.
However, these talks will not include European representatives, raising questions about the continent’s role in negotiations.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has issued a stark warning, stating, “The old days are over when America supported Europe just because it always had.”

He urged European nations to take a more proactive role in securing Ukraine’s future, even calling for the creation of a unified European armed force.
Keir Starmer to Take European Message to Washington
Following the summit, Sir Keir will travel to Washington, D.C., where he is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump.
According to Downing Street sources, he will deliver key messages from European leaders regarding NATO’s position and the urgent need for continued support for Ukraine.
Trump, who recently held separate calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, claimed that both sides had agreed to begin negotiations.
However, Zelenskyy made it clear that Ukraine would not accept any agreements made behind its back, insisting that Europe must be involved in the peace process.
