Richard Tice Clashes With Presenter Over Trump’s Ukraine Strategy

She further argued that Trump’s negotiation strategy hands Russia everything it wants upfront, while Tice maintained that Trump’s opening stance doesn’t necessarily reflect the final deal.

Reform UK leader Richard Tice found himself in a heated debate with TalkTV presenter Julia Hartley-Brewer, as she challenged his defence of Donald Trump’s approach to the Ukraine war.

Trump recently announced plans to begin negotiations with Vladimir Putin, sparking controversy over potential territorial concessions. The U.S. defence secretary, Pete Hegseth, has already suggested that Russia could retain a fifth of Ukraine’s land and that Kyiv would be blocked from joining NATO.

Reform UK, known for its alignment with Trump’s administration, defended this approach—but Hartley-Brewer was having none of it.

“Which Part of Britain Would You Give Away?”

During the interview, Hartley-Brewer posed a sharp question to Tice:

“Which part of Britain would you give away if we were invaded and you wanted to negotiate peace?”

Tice began to respond, “None at all—” but was immediately cut off.

“Oh, so we wouldn’t give away any of Britain, but it’s OK for us to give away a bit of Ukraine?” she fired back.

Tice argued that it was up to Ukraine to decide, not outside nations, but Hartley-Brewer pointed out that Ukraine doesn’t want to give away its land—making any “negotiation” effectively forced surrender.

War, Negotiation, and National Security

Tice attempted to compare the situation to the Troubles in Northern Ireland, arguing that negotiated peace is sometimes necessary. But Hartley-Brewer wasn’t convinced.

“We didn’t give away territory to an invading force! That’s a ridiculous analogy,” she snapped.

As the debate escalated, Tice insisted that wars should end through negotiation. But Hartley-Brewer countered:

“No, wars stop when one side is defeated. Sorry, have you heard of the Second World War?”

She further argued that Trump’s negotiation strategy hands Russia everything it wants upfront, while Tice maintained that Trump’s opening stance doesn’t necessarily reflect the final deal.

The exchange ended with Hartley-Brewer questioning Tice’s stance on national security.

“I thought Reform cared about national borders and security—just apparently not all of them.”

Tice defended his party’s position, but when asked how long he would fight for his own country, he firmly responded:

“Until I’m dead.”

To which Hartley-Brewer concluded:

“Well exactly—that’s what the Ukrainian people would ideally do if they were given support.”
