Donald Trump Jr Suggests President May Step Back From Ukraine Peace Push

Trump Jr framed his father’s approach as “common sense” and confirmed that Elon Musk is “100% back in the fold” following previous tensions. Earlier this year, his firm 1789 Capital invested heavily in Musk-linked companies including SpaceX.

Donald Trump’s eldest son has hinted that the US president could step away from the Ukraine peace process, suggesting the conflict is not a top priority for American voters and that Europe must devise a stronger plan.

Speaking at the Doha Forum 2025 in a wide-ranging discussion with Sky’s Yalda Hakim, Donald Trump Jr weighed in on global diplomacy while outlining his own business agenda focused on “America first” investments in defence technology and artificial intelligence. He stressed the connection between economic strength and global stability.

When pressed on whether he believed his father would walk away from the Ukraine issue, he replied: “I think he may, what’s good about my father and what’s unique about my father is you don’t know what he’s going to do. He’s unpredictable.”

Ukraine Funding Fatigue and Claims of Political ‘Unpredictability’

President Trump has recently pushed for renewed ceasefire talks with Russia, but Trump Jr argued that other challenges outweigh the conflict, drawing comparisons with his father’s efforts to target drug cartels.

He described gangs trafficking illegal drugs as a “far greater clear and present danger to the US than anything [going on] in the Ukraine or Russia”.

Although he said he did not think Ukraine would be “abandoned”, he added: “The American public doesn’t have the appetite [for endless wars and further funding of Ukraine’s military efforts].”

He also labelled Ukraine “a far more corrupt country than Russia” and described President Zelenskyy as “one of the great marketeers of all time”, claiming he had become “a borderline deity, especially to the left”.

Elon Musk ‘Back in the Fold’ as Trump Jr Praises Tech Influence

Trump Jr framed his father’s approach as “common sense” and confirmed that Elon Musk is “100% back in the fold” following previous tensions. Earlier this year, his firm 1789 Capital invested heavily in Musk-linked companies including SpaceX.

Comparing Musk with the president, he said, “Imagine dealing with one Donald Trump – now I have to deal with two.

“They’re very similar that way, so it created some headaches… but the reality is they’re both very much aligned, they’re on message with what we want to do with our country. What we want to do with freedom of speech.”

He praised Musk’s takeover of Twitter, saying, “Elon did incredible things for Twitter, really allowed the democratisation of truth and freedom and free speech to occur.

“That’s something that is a true threat in America right now.” Musk, he added, is “changing the face of free speech, science and technology”, insisting that “we have to protect our geniuses”.

Asked whether President Trump might run for a third term, he joked he could be “just trolling” political opponents, adding: “He’s the most unpredictable person, probably in the history of politics. Which is why he’s able to get something done. We’ll see.”
