Former Bank of England governor Mark Carney has been named the new Prime Minister of Canada after securing a decisive victory in the Liberal Party leadership race. “Donald Trump has put unjustified tariffs on what we build, on what we sell, and how we make a living,” Carney declared. “He’s attacking Canadian families, workers, and businesses, and we cannot let him succeed—and we won’t.”
Carney pledged that Canada would maintain its retaliatory tariffs until the U.S. treats the country with respect.

A New Chapter After Trudeau’s Tenure
Mark Carney, 59, will replace outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who has led the country since 2015.
Trudeau announced his resignation in January amid declining approval ratings, driven by rising food and housing costs. Despite calls from within his party to step down, he will remain in office until Carney is officially sworn in.
One of Carney’s first major decisions as Prime Minister will be setting a date for the next general election, which must be held on or before October 20.
