One Direction, consisting of Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik, delivered numerous chart-topping hits during their peak years.
Zayn’s departure from the group in 2015 paved the way for the remaining members to gather their courage and embark on solo careers. Recently, Zayn shed light once again on the reasons behind being the first to pursue a solo path.
The renowned boy band was formed in 2010. However, in the same year Zayn announced his departure from the group, the remaining four members released one album before taking an indefinite hiatus, leaving millions of hearts broken.
Zayn’s solo career flourished remarkably with hits like “Pillowtalk,” “Dusk Till Dawn,” and others, propelling him forward without looking back.
During an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Zayn Malik candidly discussed why he decided to be the first member to leave One Direction.
According to Pop Crave, he expressed, “I completely, selfishly wanted to be the first person to go and make my own record, if I’m being completely honest with you. I was like, ‘I’m gonna jump the gun here for the first time.’ I’m a passive dude, but when it comes to my music and my business, I’m serious about it, and I’m competitive. So I wanted to be the first to go and do my own thing.”
Zayn Malik also mentioned that there were underlying politics involved before he made the decision to depart from the One Direction band. He stated, “Certain people were doing certain things. Certain people didn’t want to sign contracts. So I knew something was happening and I just got ahead of the curve.”
Many of his fans applauded his decision, expressing gratitude that he managed to get himself from the situation. One user commented, “Thank God he got out of this mess then.” Another tweet read, “He’s honest but his success was not that at all consistent as he stopped making new music materials.”
Zayn Malik’s bold move to embark on a solo career has undoubtedly shaped his artistic journey, resonating with fans worldwide.
