As the lockdown restrictions continue to ease out, a number of citizens who are highly vulnerable are left at an extremely high risk.
A lot of vulnerable people across the UK have had their names removed from the shielding lists and only informed via text message, without the awareness of their GPs.
This resulted in commotion and charities now require a clearer guidance for this group of people as the lockdown restrictions are eased out.
The government announced that they have prolonged the shielding until the end of the next month, although it is still under constant review.
The Royal College of GPs said: “However, it is important that as guidance changes and patients are either added or removed from ‘shielding lists’ based on conditions they have or medication they are taking, that GPs and relevant specialists are advised about this”.
An asthmatic woman aged 35 from Rotherham was advised to shield on 25 March. All of a sudden, she received a text informing her that her shielding had to cease, and her food deliveries would be stopped.
She had to call her GP with the assumption that this was a fake message, but surprisingly he “didn`t have a clue” why she received the message.
Samantha said: “It doesn’t make sense – the virus isn’t going anywhere so why is it that suddenly I don’t need to shield anymore? If I ended up in hospital I would have to involve my mum and dad with the children, and that’s putting them at risk.”
The sudden change has left the mother of two children- aged four and 10 months troubled and confused as her disabled husband can hardly even drive.
