President Donald Trump has issued a blunt response following the death of former FBI director and special counsel Robert Mueller, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 81.
Posting on Truth Social, Donald Trump wrote: “Robert Mueller just died. Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people!”
Mueller, a central figure in one of the most politically charged investigations in recent US history, had been battling Parkinson’s disease after being diagnosed in 2021, according to a statement released by his family last August.
Donald Trump Robert Mueller Investigation Legacy And Russia Probe Findings
Mueller led the high-profile inquiry into Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election. The investigation examined links between the Trump campaign and Russian officials, placing the former president under intense scrutiny throughout his term in office.
While the probe identified multiple contacts between Trump associates and Russian figures, Mueller ultimately declined to bring obstruction charges against Trump.
He cited Department of Justice guidelines that prevented the indictment of a sitting president, despite noting that there was sufficient evidence that could have supported such a charge under different circumstances.
The investigation’s outcome did little to ease tensions, as Trump repeatedly criticised Mueller and dismissed the probe as politically motivated.
Truth Social Reaction And Renewed Political Messaging
Less than an hour after his initial post regarding Mueller’s death, Trump returned to Truth Social with further political commentary.
“The Fascist Democrats will never protect America, but the Republicans will,” he wrote, adding remarks about deploying Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to patrol airports across the United States.
