After a brief removal, TikTok is once again available for download on Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store in the United States. The app initially vanished from both platforms on January 19, 2025, as a nationwide ban briefly took effect.
Although TikTok’s service was quickly restored following President Donald Trump’s decision not to enforce the ban, the app had remained unavailable for new downloads—until now.
Apple and Google Reverse Course After DOJ Assurances
Apple’s decision to reinstate TikTok followed a letter from U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, according to Bloomberg. Previously, Trump had issued an executive order instructing the Justice Department to delay enforcement of the ban for 75 days.
Google also restored TikTok to its Play Store after the Justice Department confirmed the move would not violate the law. In the meantime, the company had encouraged Android users to sideload the app while awaiting official approval.
TikTok’s Future in the U.S. Remains Uncertain
While TikTok is once again available, its long-term future in the U.S. remains unclear. Trump has repeatedly suggested a potential deal that would allow TikTok to continue operating under certain conditions—including giving the U.S. government a stake in the company.

Several investors and companies have expressed interest in acquiring parts of TikTok, but the company has not publicly indicated which offers, if any, are being seriously considered.
For now, users can once again access the app, but the ongoing legal and political battle over its future is far from over.
