A number of people across the UK are now at risk as thousands of coronavirus cases went unreported due to a “shambolic” glitch.
Thousands of Brits who should have been told to self-isolate were not contacted quickly enough because of the chaos in the reporting system. Nearly 16,000 cases had gone unreported which has led to a huge spike in official case figures.

Public Health England’s interim chief executive Michael Brodie said: “After rapid investigation, we have identified that 15,841 cases between 25 September and 2 October were not included in the reported daily Covid-19 cases. The majority of these cases occurred in the most recent days”.
“Every one of these cases received their Covid-19 test result as normal and all those who tested positive were advised to self-isolate.”
In another statement, he said that they worked with NHS Test and Trace to “quickly resolve the issue and transferred all outstanding cases immediately into the NHS Test and Trace contact tracing system. We fully understand the concern this may cause and further robust measures have been put in place as a result”

The technical glitch was described as “shambolic” by Labour.
Recently, there has been widespread criticism of the test and trace system and the technical glitch could be a further blow to public confidence in the system. Nearly 23,000 cases were reported on Sunday, leaving confusion around the true figure.
