The smash Broadway hit Hamilton is now available and is streaming on Disney Plus from Friday, July 3rd. Fans have been excited and now it’s finally time to enjoy the much-awaited on stage film.
The Hamilton movie was originally scheduled to hit theaters in October 2021 but was moved online as a result of theater closures during the coronavirus pandemic this year.
Hamilton was directed by Thomas Kail, the music was composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, as well as the screenplay, and it was also produced by Miranda and Jeffrey Seller. This film version of Hamilton was captured at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway.
The Hamilton movie was recorded with the original 2016 Broadway cast, which consists mostly of Black, Latino, and Asian American performers, including Miranda himself.
The Disney Plus release is being taken note of in the current climate of political protest against systemic racial injustice and calls to reform everything from entrenched policing laws to the hiring and compensation practices of corporate America.
Watching this film will be like sitting in the audience but so much better as the play has been shot from different angles, including frequent close-ups, offers bird’s-eye views of the whole stage, and occasionally frames the scene from backstage.
This gives us the whole feel of a movie but shot as a theatrical version, they have done extremely well in converting the theatre piece into a stage show film.
The Hamilton movie on Disney + will be an ‘opera of diversity and a blazingly patriotic Fourth of July celebration’. While Broadway finds the show to be a way of moving forward and a protest against systemic racial injustice, a portion of the Disney audience may inevitably be stricken with culture shock.
The original Broadway cast of Hamilton will be hosting a Twitter watch party this Friday, July 3rd at 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT. This can be joined by tweeting along using #Hamilfilm.
Already fans of the smash Broadway hit Hamilton have been streaming the on stage film and the reaction has been positive. –
