A man from Swansea has been sentenced to life imprisonment after killing his older brother in a case that stunned the local community.
Darren Steel, 41, of Morriston, was handed a life sentence at Swansea Crown Court, with a minimum term of 20 years, after being convicted of murder. He had previously been found guilty of grievous bodily harm and actual bodily harm during the initial trial, police confirmed.
The body of 48-year-old Martin Steel was discovered at a property on Hill View Crescent in Clase shortly after 10.30am on 20 May 2023. His mother found him at the address.

The court heard that Martin Steel, a father of two, was assaulted by his younger brother and left to die. Following a retrial, Darren Steel was found guilty of murder on Thursday.
The sentence means he will serve at least two decades behind bars before he can be considered for parole.
The case has drawn significant attention in Swansea and surrounding communities, particularly in Clase and Morriston.

“Darren Steel committed the ultimate betrayal against his older brother and caused further distress by pleading not guilty and putting the family through the ordeal of not one, but two trials.

“Darren Steel is a violent and dangerous individual and the life sentence and minimum tariff of 20 years is wholly justified in this case.

Police said the investigation had been extensive and complex, with officers working to secure justice for Martin Steel and his loved ones.
