2017 Dakar Rally motorcycle champion Sam Sunderland airlifted after a crash as Toby Price goes on to become the first double stage winner at Dakar 2020.
The British born racer who is currently based in Dubai crashed along the 187km marker during the 5th stage of the Dakar 2020 race in Saudi Arabia.
Sunderland who had taken was the overall leader on Monday was stripped of his stage 4 victory on Wednesday after being penalized 5 minutes for speeding in a neutralized section of the race giving Jose Ignacio Cornejo Florimo the win.
Organizers have announced that Sam Sunderland will not be returning to continue the race after he was airlifted.
The fifth stage which runs over a 564 km stretch from Al Ula to Ha’il was won by his KTM teammate Toby Price who beat Husqvarna’s Pablo Quintanilla by 1m12s.
Toby Price is now in second place with 19h 9m 06s whilst American Ricky Brabec rinding for Honda is in the lead with 19h 07m 19s. READ MORE….
