The growing rift between Prince Harry and Prince William is about to get even wider and harder to fix as Harry and wife Meghan Markle are set to exit the royal family this March.
We fondly remember the images of the two inseparable young princes as we watched them grow up in front of us. The bond between the two grew even stronger after the passing of Princess Diana with the Duke of Cambridge taking up his role as an older brother and becoming someone for his younger brother to look up to.
As the Duke of Sussex went through the normal stages of wild teenage rebellion whilst making the headlines for all the wrong reasons at the time, his elder brother was able to steer him safely out of this phase and set him back on course to becoming the loving Royal Prince we see today.
Things seemed to have all changed when Meghan Markle stepped into the picture. William who is next in line to the throne had been sceptical and hesitant about the relationship between his younger brother and then actress Meghan Markle.
As next in line to the throne and stickler for Royal protocol, the Duke of Cambridge saw their relationship as inappropriate for a member of the Royal family.
This seems to be the turning point in their relationship. The rumours of the strain between the brothers were reinforced in a documentary interview that Harry had with ITV last year where he said:
“Inevitably stuff happens. But we’re brothers, we’ll always be brothers,”
“We’re certainly on different paths at the moment. I’ll always be there for him and as I know, he’ll always be there for me. We don’t see each other as much as we used to because we’re so busy but I love him dearly.”
Where The Rift Began
But it would be wrong to blame Meghan as the cause of the rift, more rather the catalyst that sparked the inevitable break-up.
The fact is that ever since Prince William started being groomed as next in line to the throne, Harry has always found himself lost in where his role lay. This may have also been the contributing factor behind during his rebellious days and where the inital rift began between the two.
Although he matured out of that phase and returned back into the royal fold, Harry never quite fit in.
The Duke of Sussex finally found belonging when he met Megan and together they are making a clean break to try to live a ‘financially independent’ life in Canada, away from the hustle and bustle of Royal duties. They are seeking a ‘normal’ life in which to raise their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
The Final Straw
Their departure from the Royal Family this month may be the final nail in the coffin as far as the relationship between the siblings go and this was ever more visible to see when the pair met each other at the Commonwealth Day Service.
Even Harry seemed surprised to the extent to which their relationship had soured from what the Daily Telegraph reported about what he told his wife Meghan about his ice-cold reception from the Duke Of Cambridge.
“He literally said: ‘Hello, Harry,’ and that was it and he didn’t say anything more than that.” he reportedly told Meghan afterwards.
Any chances of the Royal Princes repairing their strained relationship look even bleaker as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex countdown their final days of royalty and prepare for a new beginning in Canada.
