Prince William and Kate Middleton are shown in a hostile light in the ‘Finding Freedom’ biography about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that was released recently.
The biography, ‘Finding Freedom’, was written by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand and has been promoted as the book that reveals the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s side of the story of the last four years.
Published by Harper Collins, the biography was announced on May 4th, 2020, and was released on August 11th, 2020.
The authors wanted the biography to portray the ‘real Harry and Meghan’ and only expose the true events that occurred behind the scenes. Though many people thought that Harry and Meghan had some involvement in how ‘Finding Freedom’ was written, they have denied taking any part in the book.
A spokesperson for the couple said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to ‘Finding Freedom’.”
“The book is based on the authors’ own experience as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting.” – The spokesperson added.
The authors of ‘Finding Freedom’ were reported to have spoken to almost 100 different people, including those who worked closely with the Duke and Duchess as well as friends to royal household members.
Many people have interpreted this as indirect approval of the book, as close friends were interviewed and no information was said to be directly sourced from Harry or Meghan.
Prince William and Kate Middleton have been shown in a relatively hostile light in ‘Finding Freedom’. Kate has been implicated as being ‘cold’ and William of appearing ‘snobbish’ in how they treated Harry and Meghan.
Richard Fitzwilliams, the royal expert, thinks it is doubtful that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will respond to the backlash at all.
Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “Buckingham Palace has not commented on any of the revelations in the extracts published so far from ‘Finding Freedom’.”
“This is to be expected and is absolutely the right course to take. I can say with certainty that William and Kate are unlikely ever to respond to anything in the book.” – He added.
Fitzwilliams went on to say: “There are times when the unwritten royal rule of ‘never complain, never explain’, is the only safe course.”
“Meghan felt she was let down by the lack of response to articles she regarded as critical of her.” – He said.
“This was the only possible course, nothing would be more calculated to encourage those seeking sensation than a royal response.” – Fitzwilliams concluded.
