Prince Harry’s UK Security Faces Fresh Review After New Government Threat Assessment Order

Following the ruling, Harry said the Court of Appeal’s decision meant it was now “impossible” for him to bring Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to the UK safely.

The Duke of Sussex’s taxpayer-funded security in the UK is reportedly being reassessed, marking the first major review of his protection arrangements in four years.

According to a source close to Prince Harry, he wrote to newly appointed Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood earlier this year, requesting a formal risk assessment from the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec).

The Home Office, which oversees Ravec, has now commissioned a fresh threat assessment, The Sun reported, signalling a significant shift since Harry’s protection level was downgraded in 2020.

Home Office Orders First Threat Review Since 2020

In May, the duke lost his appeal challenging the High Court’s dismissal of his claim against the Home Office over Ravec’s decision to reduce his taxpayer-funded security while in the UK.

Ravec reached the decision in February 2020 after Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties and relocated to Canada and later the United States.

The Sun reports that Ravec has now directed its Risk Management Board to complete a full reassessment of his threat level, with a decision anticipated next month.

Officials Maintain Policy of Secrecy Over Royal Protection

A government spokesperson said, “The UK government’s protective security system is rigorous and proportionate. It is our long-standing policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individuals’ security.”

The review follows a report by The Daily Telegraph alleging that a “known stalker” came “within feet” of Prince Harry on two separate occasions during his last visit to the UK in September.
