As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, a number of retail shops across the UK were forced to stop operating in order to limit the spread of the virus and keep the Britons safe.

However, this move has had a very negative impact on the economy of the UK. As most retailers and small businesses ceased to operate, quite a number of people were left out of work.

The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson urged people to go out and shop next month to revive the UK economy. He said that the move is “contingent on progress in the fight against coronavirus”, and retailers will have to adhere to the new guidelines to protect shoppers and workers.

From the 1st of June, all outdoor markets and car showrooms will be allowed to begin operations. Other non-essential retail – including high street shops, department stores and shopping centres will only be able to open on 15 June.

Boris Johnson said that new has been published for retail sector “detailing the measures they should take to meet the necessary social distancing and hygiene standards”.Shops now have the time to implement this guidance before they reopen”.

“This will ensure there can be no doubt about what steps they should take,” he said.

The owners and managers of all non-essential shops will have to put very strict measures in place in order to avoid a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
