A 42-year-old man died after a gunman opened fire inside a home in Ardrossan, North Ayrshire before leaving the property.
Officers said that the gunman went into the house in Nithsdale Road, in the town of Ardrossan at around 16:50 on Sunday. The victim suffered gunshot injuries and when emergency services arrived at the scene the man was already dead.
According to reports, a 46-year-old woman was also in the house at the time of the shooting, but she was not hurt.
A 42-year-old man who was suspected to have a connection with the shooting was taken into custody by the Scotland police.
A Scotland Police spokesperson said: “Around 4.50 am on Sunday, 24 May a 42-year-old man and 46-year-old woman were within a house in Nithsdale Road, Ardrossan when a man entered the house and discharged what is believed to be a firearm before leaving the house.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of the incident and are currently searching the surrounding area for the suspect and viewing CCTV in the area.”
The police are still investigating the events which led to the shooting and death of a man in Ardrossan.
