A shocking incident has unfolded in rural Italy, where a British grandmother was tragically found dead in her underwear at her idyllic home.

Michele shared her home in the small village of Verratti, in eastern Italy, with her partner Michael Whitbread, 74.

Whitbread left the property in the couple’s white Jeep Compass, prompting the country’s police force to launch a search for him. The Times revealed that he fled to the UK where he was arrested.

According to Colonel Alceo Greco of the Italian police force, Michele could have died up to three days before her discovery. Her body was found covered with a white sheet, and there were no signs of a struggle. Investigators believe she may have been stabbed while she was asleep, but a forensic examination is needed to ascertain more details.

The tragic discovery of Michele’s body came to light after a friend tried to contact the couple but couldn’t reach them. Concerned, the friend went to their home and found the front door keys in the lock. They then alerted a resident, who subsequently informed the police.

Michele, a mother of two, had recently shared pictures of idyllic sunsets from her home’s terrace on social media. The news of her untimely demise has left friends and family in shock.

Neighbours described the couple as private individuals who did not interact much with the community due to their limited knowledge of the Italian language. However, they were always friendly and greeted others with a smile.

The Foreign Office has confirmed that they are providing support to the family of the deceased British woman and are in contact with the local authorities.
