“It was great,” the Slow Hands singer said, explaining how quickly they slipped back into their old dynamic. He noted they “fell back in like it was 10 years ago” during the reunion.
“[Liam] seemed in good form and we had a good laugh, good reminisce,” Niall added.
However, the mood shifted dramatically when he later received the news of Liam’s passing. “I just didn’t think it was real. Someone so young, you’re not expecting to hear that they’ve passed, especially someone that you’ve just seen. I just went back from shock to sadness to anger.”

In the immediate aftermath of Liam’s death, Niall addressed fans on Instagram with a heartfelt message: “Liam had an energy for life and a passion for work that was infectious. He was the brightest in every room and always made everyone feel happy and secure.

“All the laughs we had over the years, sometimes about the simplest of things, keep coming to mind through the sadness. We got to live out our wildest dreams together and I will cherish every moment we had forever. The bond and friendship we had doesn’t happen often in a lifetime.
“I feel so fortunate that I got to see him recently. I sadly didn’t know that after saying goodbye and hugging him that evening, I would be saying goodbye forever. It’s heartbreaking.”
Meanwhile, Harry Styles has also recently opened up about his own experience of losing Liam, adding to the wave of tributes from those closest to the late singer.
