China Assures A Strong Trade Deal With UK In A ‘Xi’ & ‘Boris’ Phone Call

While reacting to allegations that the response to coronavirus from the Chinese government was not quick enough and there were attempts to cover it up for the world no to know.

World second-biggest economy China has assured UK prime minister, Boris Johnson with a huge Brexit boost after it stated its readiness to a trade deal with the UK leader and a “ready to work with Britain at any time” while on a first phone call with the Prime Minister, the Chinese President Xi Jinping said.

Liu Xiaoming, the Chinese ambassador to London, said having a detailed trade talk for both nations may take a little while as Beijing is most concerned with dealing with coronavirus for now. But after a feasibility study was quietly paused last year during the Brexit deadlock, the top diplomat said there is a will “to engage each other more positively”.

Liu Xiaoming told Sky News during an interview at the Chinese embassy in London: “When it comes to a trade deal, we are open.

Mr Liu Xiaoming said China and the UK had initially set up an active working team to study the feasibility of a trade deal in 2019, but it was affected by British government focus on exiting the European Union.

Speaking on whether the working team are back on their feet, My Liu said, “We are ready to work with our British colleagues any time.” while adding that British officials had also “expressed a willingness” to restart talks.

The Beijing assurance to Boris Johnson came after his first telephone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday morning.

It also comes at a time when the divide between the UK and EU over respective rights in a future post-Brexit trade agreement continues to widen.

The ambassador said, “I can say in the very certain term that the government made every effort to address this challenge,”

“The government also tried every effort to be transparent, to share all information with the World Health Organisation, also other relevant countries including the UK.”

“I think the whole world should appreciate what China has done.”
