The Neopets Team has grand ambitions to modernize the once-adored virtual pet website, aiming to bring it up to date with current trends.
In a lengthy post on Medium, the team has announced the imminent arrival of a new Neopets website on July 20th.
It will continue to reside at the same URL but will encompass all the brand’s announcements and provide links to its various games and products.
The individuals behind this overhaul are presently working on rectifying bugs and ensuring compatibility with mobile browsers. They are also exploring the utilization of Ruffle, a Flash player emulator, to enable the revival of classic Flash-based Neopets games.
The company that previously owned Neopets had plans to produce an animated series based on the much-loved virtual pet website, but unfortunately, the series was never released before the company closed down.
In their announcement, the Neopets team has disclosed that they are now under new leadership and have successfully secured over £4 million in funding for their future endeavors. The team members certainly appear optimistic about the brand’s prospects.
In fact, the team has no intentions of stopping at a revamped website alone. They have evidently made the decision to transition into a mobile app, and are embarking on the creation of a social life-simulation game titled World of Neopets from scratch.
Currently, the plan is to develop a game from the perspective of a Neopet, allowing players to decorate their homes, explore 3D landscapes, and engage in mini-games with their friends, reminiscent of popular titles such as Animal Crossing.
However, it is important to note that the project is still in its nascent stages, and its realization is yet to be seen.
