Natalie Portman has spoken out forcefully against the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement policies, describing recent raids in Minnesota as “outrageous” following two fatal shootings involving Border Patrol and ICE agents.
The Oscar-winning actor made the comments on Saturday ahead of the premiere of her new film The Gallerist at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, according to The Hill. Visibly emotional, Portman reflected on the gravity of the moment as the film debuted against a backdrop of national unrest.
“I’m getting emotional because it’s really been — it’s such a horrible day. It’s been a horrible week,” she said. “What is happening in our country is just obscene.”
Natalie Portman Criticises Trump, Kristi Noem and ICE Over Immigration Raids
Portman directly condemned President Donald Trump, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), accusing them of causing harm through aggressive immigration crackdowns.

“What Trump and Kristi Noem and ICE are doing to our citizens, and undocumented people, is outrageous and needs to end,” she said.
Her remarks came just hours after ICU nurse Alex Pretti, 37, was fatally shot by Border Patrol agents on Saturday in Minneapolis.
The incident followed another deadly shooting earlier this month, when ICE agents killed 37-year-old Renee Good on 7 January, also in Minneapolis. That killing sparked protests across the United States.
‘ICE Out’ Message and Community Solidarity Amid National Pain
In a separate interview with Variety, Portman continued her criticism by wearing an “ICE Out” pin, using the moment to reiterate her call for immigration raids to stop.

Despite the tragedy, she also highlighted what she described as a growing sense of unity among Americans responding to the crisis.

“But also, there’s a beautiful community that Americans are showing right now. They’re showing up for each other, protecting each other, and fighting for their freedom,” Portman said.
“It’s a bittersweet moment to celebrate [our film ‘The Gallerist’ that] we’re so proud of on the backdrop of our nation in pain,” she added.
