‘Mulan’ Is Set To Debut Next Month On Disney Plus

Hopes for a theatrical release of Mulan have been scrapped as it is now set to debut next month on Disney Plus for almost a $30 fee.

Hopes for a theatrical release of ‘Mulan’ have been scrapped as it is now set to debut next month on Disney Plus for almost a $30 fee.

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought Hollywood productions to a pause and many theatres have shut down bringing us to a new way of doing things, such as streaming movies at home instead of going to see it elsewhere.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek revealed the news on Tuesday, saying the company is ‘even more confident about our future’ as Disney Plus has millions of subscribers.

Deadline reported that Bob Chapek said: “We’re pleased to bring ‘Mulan’ to a consumer base that’s been waiting for it as we’ve had to move our [release] dates several times,”

“We’re looking at ‘Mulan’ as a one-off as opposed trying to say that there’s a new business windowing model.” – Bob Chapek added.

Deadline also reported that due to there being a piracy concern having previously clouded the release date of ‘Mulan’, which stars Yifei Liu, it will be put in theatre markets where they are open and where Disney Plus is not available next month.

According to Bob Chapek: “The streaming would be available in the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, and a number of countries.”

With regard to the fee that must be paid in order to watch ‘Mulan’, the CEO said the company was using the move as a way of a trial amid the changing times that we are facing.

“Rather than simply rolling [Mulan] into a free offering, we thought we can test anything when you have your own platform,” – Bob Chapek said.

“We’re trying to establish a new premiere access window to capture that investment we got. We’ll have a chance to learn from this.” – He added.

Bob Chapek went on to say: “From our research under a premiere access offering, not only does it get us revenue from our original transaction … but it’s a fairly large stimulus to sign up for Disney Plus.”

The CEO commented on the fee of watching ‘Mulan’ by saying: “As you know, it’s fairly expensive to produce for consumers the quality we’re known for.”

‘Mulan’ was initially set to arrive in theaters in March and was then delayed to July 24th and August 21st, now fans can enjoy ‘Mulan’ at home next month, from September 4th, on Disney Plus or at selected theatres.

Amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Disney is also working on ways to release the movies ‘The New Mutants’ and ‘Black Widow’, so we still have many more movies to look forward to.
