During his acceptance speech, Jordan paid tribute to those closest to him, including his family and longtime collaborator Ryan Coogler, who directed Sinners.
“I’m so honored to call you a collaborator and a friend,” he said. “You gave me the opportunity and space for me to be seen and I love you to death.”
The film proved to be a major force at this year’s awards, earning 16 nominations and taking home four trophies. Alongside Jordan’s Best Actor win, Coogler secured Best Original Screenplay, Ludwig Göransson won Best Original Score, and Autumn Durald Arkapaw made history as the first woman to win Best Cinematography.

Jordan appeared visibly stunned when last year’s winner Adrien Brody announced his name. He paused to share the moment with his mother before embracing Coogler and acknowledging co-star Delroy Lindo.
The auditorium response highlighted the widespread admiration for the actor, known for roles in Black Panther and Creed. During his speech, he also honoured past Black Oscar winners, including Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker and Will Smith.

While Sinners secured four awards, One Battle After Another emerged as the night’s biggest winner, claiming six honours including Best Picture and Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson.
Sean Penn earned his third Oscar for his role in the same film, although he did not attend the ceremony. The Best Supporting Actress award went to Amy Madigan for Weapons, beating nominees including Teyana Taylor and Wunmi Mosaku.
Elsewhere, Frankenstein picked up three technical awards, while family hit KPop Demon Hunters secured two wins.
