Meghan Markle has managed to contact her father, Thomas Markle, who is currently in a Philippines hospital, her spokesperson has confirmed. Reports suggest he has undergone a left leg amputation.
Mr Markle recently told the media he feared dying without reconciling with his daughter. He also shared his wish to finally meet his two grandchildren and Prince Harry.
Meghan has been estranged from her father since her 2018 wedding, following revelations that he staged paparazzi photos ahead of the ceremony. In her latest statement, her spokesperson appeared to criticise his continued engagement with the tabloid press.
Meghan’s Attempts to Reach Father ‘Exceedingly Difficult’
Her spokesperson said, “Given that a Daily Mail reporter has remained at her father’s bedside throughout, broadcasting each interaction and breaching clear ethical boundaries, it has been exceedingly difficult for the duchess to contact her father privately, despite her efforts over the past several days.

“With the support of reliable and trusted contacts, her correspondence is now safely in his hands.”
It is understood that the duchess contacted Mail reporters to request any means of reaching her father, including details of the hospital he was in, but received no response.
She is also believed to have phoned several hospitals in the Philippines in an effort to locate him. Her new statement follows The Mail on Sunday’s apparent challenge to an earlier claim that she had already “reached out”.
DMG Media Responds to Meghan Markle’s Statement
A spokesperson for DMG Media, parent company of the Daily Mail, said the journalist at Mr Markle’s bedside had maintained a “close relationship” with him since 2018. They stated it was Mr Markle who contacted the reporter when he became unwell, asking them to travel to the Philippines.
“Nothing has been published without his specific consent, and that of his son,” the spokesperson said.
They added that the journalist “confirmed to the Duchess of Sussex’s representative that Mr Markle does not have an active email address but that his phone number, which the duchess has previously used for him, remains unchanged”.

The spokesperson also noted that the reporter had “made clear that if she can do anything to facilitate contact between Mr Markle and his daughter to have a conversation, then she would be happy to do so”.
“Any suggestion we have ‘puppeteered’ Mr Markle is entirely false and strongly denied,” they added.
Meghan relinquished her HRH title, along with Prince Harry, when the couple stepped back from senior royal duties in March 2020.
