Matt Lucas has been praised for his debut as the new co-host of ‘The Great British Bake Off’, from doing a spirit-boosting Boris Johnson impression, he also boasted of his own beauty, did a balancing head act, and sang to a contestant.
The Little Britain star, who had replaced Sandi Toksvig as host, started the 11th series of the show on a high note and most fans have really enjoyed it so far.

Starting off the show Matt Lucas impersonated Boris Johnson as he recreated a spoof press conference with the slogan ‘Stay Alert, Protect Cake, Save Loaves’.
This was done just after the show was postponed by 15 minutes due to Boris Johnson addressing the nation with new lockdown measures in the fight against Covid-19.
In the skit, Matt, who wore a platinum blonde wig stood in front of a Union Jack flag, said: “I’ve talked about this, you know, the printer is upside down again. And oh no.. well… how? Ah, yes well that works actually, I can read that fine.”
Matt Lucas went on to make a few more jokes, including one about how to pronounce ‘scone’. He concluded by taking his wig off and saying: “All that remains is for me to say…. Welcome to ‘The Great British Bake Off’.”
Following Tuesday night’s episode of the show, fans flooded Twitter and praised Matt for his debut and best moments.
One fan wrote: “After watching last nights #GBBO I was sad not to see my favourite Sandy Toksvig anymore.”

Aside from his impression of the Prime Minister, another stand out moment for the hilarious Little Britain star was while he joined Noel Fielding in comforting the heartbroken Sura after her blunder.
Matt Lucas said to her: “It might be my fault because I was looking at you and I think you were probably hypnotised by my beauty”.

In another moment of comforting a contestant, he spoke to eventual evictee Loriea about her hometown of Durham, during which he sang loudly Roger Whittaker’s ‘Old Durham Town’ in her ear.
Though he was praised by some for his hosting debut there are still a few fans of the show who did not appreciate his presence.
