Light Show Marks The End Of COVID-19 Lockdown In Wuhan, China

"I haven't been outside for more than 70 days,"

Wuhan City in China marked the end of their COVID-19 lockdown with a light show to celebrate the end of an 11 week battle against the coronavirus.

Wuhan was the epicentre of the COVID-19 pandemic that is still causing havoc in most parts of the world. The local population made up of 11 million people are now allowed to move about freely.

As of midnight on Wednesday, authorities announced that people could now exit and enter the city of Wuhan as they wished, with the only condition being that they installed a special app on their smartphones that would allow for government surveillance monitoring their health as well as any contact they have a had with any infected persons.

To mark the momentous occasion as which life in the city began to return back to normal after 11 weeks of lockdown and isolation procedures, a light show was held at both sides of the Yangtze River.

The Chinese national anthem echoed throughout the town with images of health workers healing infected patients being displayed on the sides of skyscrapers and buildings.

The “Heroic City” as referred to by the president and Communist Party leader Xi Jinping, lined the streets and bridges shouting “Wuhan, let’s go!”. Hundreds of people waited for the first trains and planes that would reconnect them to the rest of the world after the 11-week ordeal.

A local resident  Tong Zhengkun, went on to say:

“I haven’t been outside for more than 70 days,”

“Being indoors for so long drove me crazy,”

On April 6, China reported only 32 new cases, all of which were stemming from abroad. To date China has a total of 81,802 confirmed positive cases with a total of 3,333 confirmed death.
