He also directed criticism at one of Reform’s MPs following remarks about racial representation in television advertising, turning the Commons exchange into a pointed pre-Christmas confrontation.
The comments came during the final PMQs session before Parliament rises for the festive break, with Starmer framing his attack in seasonal terms as he addressed the House.
PMQs: Christmas Jibes and the Russia Bribery Case
Opening with festive greetings, the prime minister said: “Mr Speaker, may I take the opportunity to wish you, all the staff in parliament, every member and their families across the House a very happy Christmas.
“And a little festive advice to those in Reform. If mysterious men from the east appear bearing gifts, this time report it to the police.”
The remark referred to Nathan Gill, Reform UK’s former leader in Wales, who was jailed for 10 and a half years last month after being convicted of taking bribes from Russia.
Reform MP Targeted Over Race Comments
Later in the session, Starmer turned his attention to Reform MP Sarah Pochin, who represents Runcorn. In October, she said it “drives me mad when I see adverts full of black people, full of Asian people”.

Responding to those comments, the prime minister told MPs: “The member for Runcorn is clearly dreaming of a white Christmas.”
Keir Starmer Signals Reform as Key Political Rival
Starmer’s pointed exchanges underline Labour’s growing focus on Reform UK as a principal political opponent.
The governing party has continued to hold a strong lead in opinion polls throughout 2025, reinforcing its confidence in taking a more confrontational tone towards the party.
