Johnny Depp is bidding a final farewell to a beloved fan.
On Tuesday, the 60-year-old actor shared a heartfelt post in remembrance of 11-year-old Kori Stovell, a fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Kori, who was born with a heart condition and had been under palliative care following two unsuccessful heart transplants, touched Depp’s life in a profound way.
“Sail on my fellow captain!! You honoured us with your life. You humbled and amazed us with the courage and strength to be able to smile through it all,” expressed Depp on his Instagram Story, alongside a monochrome video of Kori.
During a video call arranged by the Make-A-Wish Foundation in December, Depp had affectionately referred to Kori as “Captain Kori.” He also created a video specifically for the young boy, which was uploaded to Kori’s YouTube channel, “Kraken The Box.”
“You’ve shown every one of us how to stay ahead of the curve with grace, humor, an incomprehensible understanding and unparalleled dignity, continued the actor in his recent post.
“You are a warrior, mate… We will meet again on the highest of seas… All my love and respect to you and your family always!!! X JD,” Depp concluded.
SurgeZirc UK learnt that Make-A-Wish had reached out to Depp in December with a special request, as Kori was in palliative care. In the video, Depp appeared as his iconic character, Captain Jack Sparrow, and conveyed his well wishes to the young fan.
“I wish you the best of luck. I am your No. 1 fan, Capt. Kori,” he conveyed in the recording.
Kori, who was an avid admirer of Jack Sparrow, frequently watched the Pirates movies during his numerous heart surgeries and subsequent recovery periods.
Born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a condition characterized by underdeveloped left-side heart structures, Kori underwent heart transplants in 2018 and 2020. Tragically, both transplants were rejected by his body, as reported by the BBC.
In a statement to the outlet, Pixi, Kori’s mother, expressed the devastating loss the family is experiencing. She had previously shared an emotional video on Sunday shortly after Kori’s passing, mentioning that he passed away peacefully with his captain’s hat by his side and a pirate flag over him.
“I would like to thank everyone who has supported Kori and followed his journey,” she added. “He was humbled and overjoyed at so much in life and we ask that people don’t forget him, now he has set sail on his biggest adventure yet.”
