Israel carried out a dozen airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon’s capital, from Thursday night until Friday morning, sparking panic and forcing hundreds of thousands of residents to flee their homes.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it launched multiple rounds of strikes on Beirut’s southern districts on Friday, targeting Hezbollah positions and facilities linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Israeli attacks across Lebanon from Monday to Friday have killed at least 217 people and injured 798 others, according to figures released by Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health.
Israel Targets Hezbollah Strongholds In Beirut
According to the IDF, the strikes were aimed at several Hezbollah strongholds located in the southern suburbs of Beirut, areas widely regarded as key centres of the group’s operations.
Israeli military officials also said the operation targeted the headquarters of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the Lebanese capital.
The overnight bombardment triggered widespread panic among civilians in the densely populated districts, prompting large numbers of residents to flee to safer areas.
Hezbollah Launches Missiles And Drone Attacks On Israeli Positions
In response to the Israeli strikes, Hezbollah announced on Friday that it carried out missile attacks against a new Israeli base located in the town of Markaba in southern Lebanon.
Later in the day, the group said it deployed drones to strike the newly established Hamams base near the border town of Khiyam.
Hezbollah also stated that guided missiles were fired at a recently constructed Israeli Defence Forces defensive position in southern Lebanon, claiming that all targets were successfully hit.

Lebanese President Michel Aoun continued diplomatic efforts with regional and international leaders in a bid to secure support from allies and friendly nations to stop Israel’s ongoing military operations.
A statement from the Presidential Palace said Israeli strikes had hit several locations across the country, leading to heavy casualties and forcing thousands of people to leave their homes.
