Homicide Detectives Launch An Investigation After A Mother Killed A Baby

A young woman has been charged with murder following the discovery of the lifeless body of her five-month-old baby son at the family home.

A young woman has been charged with murder following the discovery of the lifeless body of her five-month-old baby son at the family home.

Following reports of an injured baby, the paramedics hastened to the scene in Wembley, north London. When the police officers and the London Ambulance Service arrived at the scene the baby boy was already dead, said the Metropolitan Police.

The tragic incident took place at about 9.51 am on the 22nd of July in Preston Road. A Met spokesperson said: “Officers and London Ambulance Service attended. A baby, believed to be less than a year old, was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The neighbours said they had been surprised to see the 31-year-old mother dressed in black being led away in handcuffs by police officers.

On Monday, a post mortem of the infant was conducted at St Thomas` Hospital and it revealed that the baby`s death was preliminarily caused by an “incised wound”.

After the incident, the homicide detectives launched an investigation and the mother, Mariam Benzain was held in custody before appearing at Willesden Magistrates` Court last Friday.

The woman was charged for murdering her own baby, Elias Biad. Ms Benzain had been remanded in custody at an Old Bailey hearing on Tuesday. The young woman is set to appear in court on a date that is yet to be confirmed.
