More than 9,700 deaths have been recorded in care homes as a result of the coronavirus. In the most recent week, a record of 2,800 has been shown.

The National Care Association has said that, Care homes felt “completely abandoned” as the coronavirus crisis swept across the UK.

Nadra Ahmed, chair association, said advice to prioritise the NHS without adequately protecting elderly people in care may have been “wrong”. The government pledged £600 million in order to improve infection control in elderly residents.

Edward Argar, health minister has renounced that the government had been badly advised by scientists when it failed to lockdown care homes and stop non-essential visits at the same time as Italy on the 5th of March.

According to the Labour`s shadow housing, communities and local government secretary Steve Reed said £600 million was “a drop in the ocean”.

He also stated that local authorities faced a £10 billion shortfall, a third of which was for care homes, and he criticized the government of “backtracking” on a promise to provide them with “whatever was necessary to get communities through this crisis”.

Prof Chris Whitty, the UK`s chief medical adviser, told MP`s that it was “highly unlikely” the virus was being transmitted between people in the UK.

The government might have to channel more resources and funds to care homes as well as perform more tests in elderly residents.
