Friends will be back for an HBO Max reunion special after many delays and fans could not be more excited about the news as it has been 16 years since the final episode aired.
The team was originally meant to start filming the reunion special in March and air it in May but HBO Max and Warner Bros Studio pushed the filming back under the lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Co-creator Marta Kauffman told The Wrap, “We are hoping to be able to shoot in August if all is well and there is no early second wave and the studio is open.”
Marta told the publication that there would be ‘components that are fresh and new’ in the format of the show as the characters won’t be returning, but the cast may shed some light on what they think they might be up to now.
The episode will have Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, and Courtney Cox all reunited for the “exclusive untitled unscripted” special.
The new episode is being executive produced by the six cast members and will be shot on the series’ lot of Stage 24 of the Warner Bros Studio. The show’s executive producers Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman, and David Crane will also all return.
Levin Reilly, the chief content officer at HBO Max said: “Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together — we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire Friends library.”
“It taps into an era when friends – and audiences – gathered together in real-time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans,” Reilly added.
In April the Friends cast joined the ‘All In Challenge’ having auctioned off a chance for six lucky fans to join them for their reunion special. Friends fans have something to look forward to as the reunion special is set to hopefully go into production very soon.
