Former “Net Zero Tsar” Condemns Expansion Of Oil And Gas Drilling

Chris Skidmore, influential Conservative MP and leader of the UK’s climate goals review expressed his concerns through a tweet.

He criticized the decision as untimely, given the world’s current heatwave conditions. Skidmore argued that it goes against the future economy, which should be based on renewable and clean industries rather than fossil fuels.

He also highlighted the disapproval of modern voters who prioritize environmental protection and warned of the negative judgment from history.

He announced his intention to write to the speaker and request an emergency debate upon their return.

Skidmore, a former science minister and advocate for green policies within the Tory party, had previously urged ministers to halt the development of the Rosebank oilfield in the North Sea to avoid damaging the UK’s credibility on the climate crisis.
