Facebook Redesigns Video Tab To Highlight Reels And Recommendations

Users can discover trending videos and other recommendations grouped by hashtags. Meta is also working towards tighter integration of Reels between Facebook and Instagram.

Facebook is giving its in-app video hub a fresh new look, taking inspiration from Instagram. The update will bring Reels’ editing tools to all Facebook videos, alongside a new “Explore” section that highlights trending clips and provides other recommendations.

In addition to the makeover, the video hub will now be known as “Video,” replacing its previous name, “Facebook Watch.”

This section, located at the top of the Facebook app, will continue to feature short-form clips like Reels, as well as live video and longer content.

This rebranding reflects the significant shift in Facebook’s video strategy since the introduction of the “Watch” section in 2017.

Previously, the focus was on promoting TV shows and long-form content created specifically for Facebook. Now, Meta’s video ambitions revolve around Reels, its TikTok competitor, and algorithmically-suggested clips.

Mark Zuckerberg has expressed his desire to transform Facebook into a “discovery engine” that surfaces content beyond users’ social circles.

The new video tab on Facebook incorporates elements from Instagram, including a new “Explore” section reminiscent of Instagram’s Explore grid.
