Angus Cloud, the talented star of the hit HBO series Euphoria, has tragically passed away at the age of 25. The actor, renowned for his role as Fezco, left us on Monday at his family’s residence in Oakland, California, as confirmed by his grieving family.
“It is with deep sadness that we bid farewell to an extraordinary individual today,” Cloud’s family stated. “As an artist, a friend, a brother, and a son, Angus held a special place in all our hearts.”
The family disclosed that Cloud had been deeply affected by the recent passing of his father, who he cherished as his closest companion. “The only consolation we find is knowing that Angus has now reunited with his beloved dad,” they added.
“He was candid about his struggles with mental health, and we hope that his passing serves as a reminder to others that they are not alone in their battles and should not suffer in silence.”
“We hope the world remembers him for his laughter, humour, and love for all. At this time, we ask for privacy as we cope with this devastating loss.”
A spokesperson from HBO expressed their profound sorrow, stating, “We are incredibly saddened to hear about the passing of Angus Cloud. He was an immensely talented individual and a cherished member of the HBO and Euphoria family. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his friends and family during this challenging time.”
Although the Oakland Fire Department did not identify Cloud by name, Fire Department Chief of Staff Michael Hunt confirmed that they had responded to a “medical emergency” at a local residence around 11:30 am on Monday, where they discovered the patient had already passed away. The cause of death remains undisclosed.
Cloud’s portrayal of the drug dealer Fezco in Euphoria spanned two successful seasons. He recounted being discovered on the streets of Brooklyn, reminiscing, “I initially thought it might be some sort of scam.”
“Then they called me back, showed me the role, and it all made sense,” he shared with i-D. “In my mind, I wondered if they stopped me because they thought I could be a star. But then I realized, no, it’s because I look like I could be a drug dealer.”
The overwhelming success of Euphoria came as a surprise to Cloud, who admitted, “Unlike most other famous people, I didn’t strive for fame. They worked hard and pursued their goals. For me, this opportunity was just too good to turn down. I had no idea it would take off like this.”
In 2022, the actor addressed fans’ comparisons between himself and his Euphoria character, expressing his discontent. “It bothers me when people assume it’s easy! Just being yourself in front of the camera,” he revealed. “Why don’t you try doing it? It’s not that simple. I brought a lot to the character. Believe what you want, but it’s not about me.”
Cloud was candid about the challenges of fame and how being recognized by fans affected him. “People recognizing me, knowing who I am, messes with my mind, for sure,” he shared with Interview Magazine in 2022. “I’d rather people not recognize me. It’s not their fault because they do, but I’d prefer they didn’t. I just want regular interactions with people. I don’t want special treatment.”
Apart from Euphoria, Cloud appeared in various films such as The Line, alongside Alex Wolff, Austin Abrams, and John Malkovich, as well as North Hollywood. He also featured in music videos for artists like Becky G, Karol G, and Juice WRLD.
In 2022, Angus Cloud was announced as the new face of Polo by Ralph Lauren Fragrances. His talents and presence will be sorely missed in the entertainment industry and beyond.
