Ethan Slater has allegedly initiated divorce proceedings with his wife following the revelation of his new relationship with Ariana Grande.
According to TMZ, the 31-year-old Slater filed for divorce in New York on Wednesday. The reason for his separation from Lilly Jay was not disclosed. SurgeZirc UK has contacted Slater and Jay for their comments on the matter.
The actor tied the knot with Jay in November 2018, after dating for six years. The former couple also welcomed a baby son in August 2022.
Following the public disclosure of Slater’s romance with Grande, an insider informed SurgeZirc UK, “Ariana and Dalton Gomez separated in January. She and Ethan recently began dating, and he is separated from his wife.”
Slater’s Instagram account is now private, but in the past, he shared several posts featuring Jay. One notable post on Mother’s Day received a “like” from Grande and expressed, “Happy first Mother’s Day to the most loving caring and wonderful mom/person in the world. – from me and this little guy.”
This revelation came a few months after Slater revealed the birth of their first child together by sharing a photo of a onesie with the words “Wicked Cute.” On their fourth wedding anniversary, he paid tribute to Jay, calling her his “best friend” and mentioning, “4 years married, 10 years together. And this is easily the best (and most bizarre) year yet.”
While specific details about the cause of their separation remain scarce, another source previously informed SurgeZirc UK that Ariana Grande, aged 30, and Gomez, aged 27, decided to part ways after nearly two years of marriage due to distance.
“She was content in Los Angeles for a couple of years. She wanted to build a life there with Dalton,” the source revealed. “However, Dalton’s career is extremely demanding and requires him to stay in Los Angeles.
This has been a point of contention for them. His career commitments make it challenging for him to leave Los Angeles frequently. So, when Ariane Grande began filming Wicked in England, their marriage faced the challenge of long-distance.”
