Meghan And Harry Takes New Position Following George Floyd’s Death

Meghan reminded the students that they will need to build the life they desire when she said: "You know that you're going to rebuild, rebuild and rebuilt until it is rebuilt.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are presently meeting with people at the front line of the Black Lives Matter movement to better understand how they can assist after the Duchess of Sussex commented on the murder of George Floyd earlier this week while declaring that “Black Lives Matter.”

Meghan said she had not commented on Floyd’s death since it occurred because she was ‘nervous’ after watching a viral video of the incident that shows George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man lying on the floor, while a white police officer, Derek Chauvin pinned his knee on his neck for nine minutes in Minneapolis on 25th May.

While delivering a speech in her old school, Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles to graduating pupils, Meghan Markle named other African Americans who were recently killed in the U.S. by police.

A source, however, revealed that Harry and Meghan have been going through private conversations with different people to see how they will get connected to the issues of police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement.

The source told Harper’s Bazaar’s royal editor Omid Scobie: “Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been having private conversations with community leaders and people at every level, to ensure that they understand current events.

“This is something that is incredibly personal to Meghan, especially given everything she has experienced. And as a couple, it is, of course, very important. They are both feeling it, just like the rest of us.”

While speaking at the school Meghan said: “George Floyd’s life mattered and Breonna Taylor’s life mattered and Philando Castile’s life mattered and Tamir Rice’s life mattered.’

The other names Meghan mentioned were all killed by U.S. police in the last six years. Meghan also referred to Los Angeles as the family’s ‘home town’ after moving there with Harry and their son Archie, one.

Speaking about George Floyd, Meghan said: “I wasn’t sure what I could say to you. I wanted to say the right thing and I was really nervous that it would get picked apart. And I realised the only wrong thing to say is to say nothing.”

The video was released to black women’s lifestyle magazine Essence, which published it on its website saying ‘courtesy of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’.

Meghan Markle also noted that how the students are “going to have empathy for those who don’t see the world through the same lens that you do’, adding: With as diverse, vibrant and open-minded as I know the teachings at Immaculate Heart are, I know you know that black lives matter.”

Recalling an advice a teacher gave to her at the age of 15, Meghan said: “I remember my teacher at the time, one of my teachers, Ms Pollia, said to me as I was leaving for a day of volunteering, “always remember to put other’s needs above your own fears”.

“And that has stuck with me throughout my entire life and I have thought about it more in the last week than ever before.”

Meghan reminded the students that they will need to build the life they desire when she said: “You know that you’re going to rebuild, rebuild and rebuilt until it is rebuilt.

“Because when the foundation is broken, so are we. You are going to lead with love, you are going to lead with compassion, you are going to use your voice.”

Most students who listened to the Duchess of Sussex speech were left broken as one on Twitter with the user name ‘blm • gia’ saying: ‘”Meghan Markle talking about George Floyd and BLM in my virtual graduation. I’m crying.”
