In an interview with IGN published on Tuesday, Murphy confidently stated that he is “100% going to see Barbie” and finds it “fantastic” that both movies are releasing on the same day.
“I mean, I’ll be going to see Barbie 100% — I can’t wait to see it,” Murphy exclaimed. “I think it’s just great for the industry and for audiences that we have two amazing films by amazing filmmakers coming out on the same day.”
He added, “Yeah, spending the entire day at the cinema—what could be better than that?”
Murphy’s excitement resonates with fans, as there has been a surge in bookings for the double feature of Oppenheimer and Barbie at cinemas. Recent reports indicate that over 20,000 tickets have already been sold at AMC Theaters, allowing viewers to enjoy both films on the same day following their joint release on July 21.
Elizabeth Frank, the Chief Content Officer and Executive Vice President of Worldwide Programming at AMC, shared a statement with Variety on Monday, stating, “That more than 20,000 moviegoers have already made plans and purchased tickets to see Barbie and Oppenheimer on the same day is a great sign that the growing online conversation around seeing both of these incredible films is turning into ticket sales.”
