The author, JK Rowling, has written a long and highly personal essay following criticisms from several members of the society of the public comments she made on issues relating to transgender.

In more detail than ever, Rowling explained how she got involved in a constantly bitter and polarised debate on the issue of gender identity, in a statement that was 3,600 words long.

JK Rowling expressed that she was “a domestic abuse survivor and sexual assault survivor”, citing this together with her belief in liberty of utterance and experience as a teacher as reasons behind her position.

In a statement, she wrote: “I’m mentioning these things now not in an attempt to garner sympathy, but out of solidarity with the huge numbers of women who have histories like mine, who’ve been slurred as bigots for having concerns around single-sex spaces.”

It came after the author of Harry Potter posted several messages on Twitter during the weekend which prompted fresh criticism. Another tweet from a critic read: “If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives.”

Thereafter, most prominent figures including actors who worked in the Harry Potter franchises like Daniel Radcliffe and Eddie Redmayne, the non-binary celebrity Jonathan Van Ness and the author of trans Juno Dawson, have been publicly argued about Rowling`s position.
