Parenthood is hard but rewarding work, working from home is a new challenge. The challenge of working and parenthood together at home is harder.
What makes it even harder today is working from home with the kids at home too! Being in the workplace can be a lot more productive. There are no stops between work to go feed or to mind the crying down the hallway.
Till it feels like you are constantly having to choose between them and work. Truth be told, it is hard to continue working when you hear them cry even if there is someone to help.
The lockdown has further put a break between the support structures we often have in place for our families. Single mothers for example who get help from grandparents or close friends are having to carry all the weight on a day today. Yesterday’s tired is today’s tired, especially if you still are not sleeping full nights.
The single parents who are essential workers are also put under pressure. Not only is there a fear of the risk of catching the virus and bringing it back to the children. With daycares and schools closed there is the panic of finding someone to look after them.
Parenthood is an intense toll on both the body and mind. Your children can bring out love, happiness, frustration, anxiety, fear, hope all in a single day. So if you are feeling a little tired and feel like you need a break. Or even a little crying session. We are thinking of you, we salute you. Keep soldiering on.
